“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes... Including you.”
When there is too much to do, I sit and pause to re-charge. Then, I can think more clearly again.
Wellness Empowerment® Student Retreats; On-going
It is important for our children and teens to have a safe space to share their feelings and to connect with peers during Wellness Empowerment® Retreats! These Retreats emphasize strengthening mental wellness and the mind-body connection. This program immerses the students in active and meaningful art making, yoga and somatics, mindfulness practices, and games for positive social connection. During this retreat, the students will use different modalities that are grounded in the themes of Creativity, Connection, and Co-Regulation.
Wellness Empowerment® Retreats will allow students to experience play, creativity, socialization, and mind-body counseling for connection and growth;
• Experience the power of creating a connected community through hands-on activities and games, creative projects, and reciprocal conversation.
• Connect within themselves and to one another in this safe, therapeutic group through their shared interests and strengths with the increased awareness that they are not alone with their struggles.
• Feel safe, empowered, and accepted for who they are and build confidence and self-esteem with a growth mindset.
• Practice mindfulness, yoga, and creative movement to release stress, reduce anxiety, and increase resilience and positive coping skills.
• Learn the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and actions and challenge automatic negative thoughts/‘Squish the ANT’ and reframe/‘FLIP THE SCRIPT’.
Group Structure:
Each group begins with a check-in and sharing their ‘rose and thorn’ with validation, empathy, and collaborative problem-solving. Then, mindful, creative play will take place for the second part of the group. Creative expression has been shown to naturally calm the body, reduce blood pressure, and even release chemicals in the brain that help decrease depression and relieve anxiety. Opening up through creative expression, play, & yoga can improve one's outlook and mood, but most importantly, it helps one to communicate experiences, including stress or anxiety for life’s many changes and transitions. Regardless of skill level, everyone has the capacity to use the creative process for health and well-being. The health benefits come from the process involved in creative expression, not the end product. Practice makes progress, not perfection. The group will end with a reflective check-out and will include breathing techniques, creative movement, and/or relaxation, grounding strategies to leave the group in a more balanced and regulated state.
